people presenting at mongolia presentation

Last week, the McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer, which hosts the Knowledge Hub on legal challenges, was invited by the WHO Country Office in Mongolia and WHO WPRO to present at a Tobacco Control Meeting and Technical Workshop (27-28 January), to inform Mongolia about various aspects of tobacco control as they embark on the amendments to the Tobacco Control Act and strengthen tobacco taxation.

The McCabe Centre’s Hayley Jones, Director, and Ma-Anne Rosales, Regional Manager for Asia, presented virtually as part of a session on “Tackling Challenges on E-cigarettes” and provided an overview of different regulatory approaches to e-cigarettes. In this session, WHO HQ also presented the latest scientific evidence on e-cigarette risks; and Australian government representatives presented on Australia’s new law reforms on e-cigarettes.

Approximately 80 Mongolian officials attended the hybrid meeting, including Members of Parliament, officials from the Ministry of Health, the National Centre for Public Health Ministry of Finance, Education, the Office of the President, Police, Customs and more. It was great to see the multisectoral interest in this meeting and ongoing commitment to strengthening tobacco control laws in Mongolia.
